Sabotage

Sabotage: Level 10 PvP, above, is my first PvP video. I hope you enjoy it.

I’ve made numerous Warcraft videos, but they are all instructional videos – how to drain tank, how to survive Children’s Week in the battlegrounds, that sort of thing. I’ve never made a video just so show me PvPing. I hesitated to make a PvP video because I didn’t see how it helped illustrate one of my posts better, or how I could teach someone how to be a better PvPer just by showing them what I do.

This was shortsighted of me.

The one thing I forgot is that there’s a pure, visceral joy to PvP – a joy that drew me in, a joy that keeps me going. Sometimes, this game isn’t about strategy, or tactics, or leadership – sometimes, it’s about excelling on the field of battle, about pwning, about kicking ass and taking names.

Sabotage: Level 10 PvP, is a tribute to the joys of lowbie PvP – specifically, Warsong Gulch at level 10. The two featured characters are Darkblade Cyn, a Subtlety Rogue, and Cynchronic, an Arcane Mage. They are both wearing what I would consider to be lowbie leveling gear, but it’s substantially better than what you’ll find most players use when leveling when not focused on PvP. I discuss this in my post, Sabotaging the Enemy: the Ethics of Gear, on this site. A future post on  Green Tinted Goggles, my twink blog, will be about the mechanics of building these characters and their specific stats.

And yes, Darkblade Cyn is named after the NPC of the same name in the goblin starting area.

I first thought of making this video when I leveled Cynchronic and tossed her into WSG as soon as I dinged 10. I had a blast. I had forgotten how much fun Mage PvP was, and I left pretty much convinced I could level her through PvP. It was then that I first thought of using the Beastie Boys’ Sabotage, because of the gear difference between me and the other players. That there was a long history of tribute videos to their original masterpiece didn’t hurt.

Sabotage: Level 10 PvP takes some cues from the original, because the original is so damn awesome! I tried to keep from going overboard, but I’ll let you be the judge of that.

Thanks for watching!
